Effectiveness Formula
Effectiveness =
(Clarity of Goals + Clarity of Role)
X
(Time spent working X (1 + Skill + Training Time) X Planning)
X
(Positive Energy + Time Spent Recharging)
all of the above divided by
Distractions
Corollaries from this Formula
If you never recharge or input positive energy into your system, no amount of time will be effective
If you have no clarity, you will not be effective
You either need skill or training time to make your work time efficient and effective.
Everyone has some skill, so the formula includes a 1 as a baseline of skill, but you can improve your efficiency with more skill.
If you have high skill/training, you can spend less time working or get done faster. If you have low skill/training, you can still be effective, it just takes more time to produce equal results
Anyone can be effective with clarity, positive energy, and focus -- skill only determines the speed of results.
Distractions can derail any amount of clarity, skill, or positive energy.
A leader is necessary to provide
- Clarity in the form of role definition, goal definition, and positive feedback and redirection
- Training in the form of instruction, mentoring, and role modeling
- Positive energy in the form of encouragement and positive feedback
- Minimizing distraction by setting clear goals, eliminating barriers, allowing for focused work time, and reducing unnecessary work
