Do You Truly Value People?
Unfortunately, the following statements are often bold-faced lies:
"We want to have great employees."
"Our people are our biggest asset."
"We have a great culture here."
- Delusional Leaders
They are often delusions because while everyone WANTS to have great employees, they're often unwilling to do what it takes to truly maximize this asset.
VALUING PEOPLE
You can value people in an emotional sense. Caring, listening, etc. This is very much a person-to-person way of valuing your people. This is important.
But you can also value people from a strategic and organizational perspective. This means valuing employees like you value other assets of the firm.
Like owning a car but never putting in fresh oil...
Like having worn out and slow imaging equipment in your medical office...
Like a carpenter with a wobbly ladder...
Not taking care of your most important asset hurts you in the long run and it hurts your bottom line.
The problem is - People issues require expertise. You can buy a new ladder or upgrade your machinery. But people issues are multi-factor issues and you need an experienced advisor to help assemble the pieces. And it takes all of your leaders fully engaged to make it work.

Don't be one of the leaders and organizations which talk a good game when it comes to people. WALK the TALK. Have a strong HR leader. Hire executives who truly value the contribution of people and people engagement strategies. Put people issues at the center of your business strategy.
Only then can you truthfully state that people are your greatest asset.
