Why Feedback is So Important to Your Healthcare Business

I once went bowling, but there was a twist - there was a blanket blocking my view of the pins. So the ball would zoom down the lane, disappear under the blanket, hit the pins, and CLANG. Pins would fall down.

How many fell down? I have no idea. The computer was set up to not show me which pins fell. All I know is I heard a loud CLANG sometimes and a less-loud CLANG other times.

Would you want to bowl this way?

Would you be more or less successful bowling this way?

What if you could see the pins like every 10th time you rolled the ball down the lane? Would that help?

How could you keep score?

Feedback at work is like this. Your employees need constant feedback. They need feedback to celebrate the wins. They need feedback to tweak their behavior. They need confirmation that they did it right. They need metrics to tell them that they are on track. And they want to hear if your company or medical practice is on track to hit its targets, as well.

The truth is that this story is a complete lie. But the metaphor remains -- bowling "blind" is no fun and neither is bowling with a curtain blocking the pins. And worse than that, you and your team will be less successful without feedback.

Whether I help you build a culture of feedback on your team or not, it's a goal worth pursuing -- for your team and for your business.
